There is no need to symlink /usr/lib/qt4/plugins /usr/lib/googleearth/plugins.
A better solution is to remove /usr/lib/googleearth/plugins directory and
modify /usr/lib/googleearth/qt.conf with the following parameters:

[Paths]
Prefix=/usr/lib/qt4
Documentation=doc
Libraries=lib
Binaries=bin
Plugins=plugins
Translations=translations
