colour me embarrassed but yes, it never occurred to me that there would be a
problem there since i used the same partitions and sizes as mnf8.2,
[root@sherlock log]# ls -lh sys*
-rw-r----- 1 root root 70M Jun 14 16:30 syslog
-rw-r----- 1 root root 704K Jun 5 04:02 syslog.1.gz
-rw-r----- 1 root root 181K May 29 04:02 syslog.2.gz
-rw-r----- 1 root root 160K May 22 04:02 syslog.3.gz
[root@sherlock log]# ls -lh kernel/inf*
-rw-r----- 1 root root 69M Jun 14 16:30 kernel/info
-rw-r----- 1 root root 631K Jun 5 04:05 kernel/info.1.gz
-rw-r----- 1 root root 108K May 29 04:02 kernel/info.2.gz
-rw-r----- 1 root root 106K May 22 04:02 kernel/info.3.gz

having just deleted older logs and forced logrotate i've now got /var from 100
to 14% usage, clearly the logs filled the partition before logrotate got to
them,
given that i don't want to repartition and reinstall what could i do to keep
log traffic down without losing anything useful, i could up the frequency of
rotation and reduce the number of backlog, there's nothing in the
'monitoring/log' section of the interface (which now works fine) to reduce
the amount of logging, will i have to do that for each of the firewall rules
individually?
thanks again for all those who thought i had an actual problem and tried to
help!
