now that it seems that i will not be able to get a final release version of mnf2 or access to mnf2 updates on mandrake mirrors (i assume that this will be the case - if not then the lack of an actual iso seems academic) then it seems that my only options are to i) make an iso from cvs? ii) go elsewhere iii) pay for it i'd love to do the third but i can't, i've already invested time in getting to used to running snf/mnf etc so i prefer to stick with it so it seems that cvs is for me, so, having never ever had anything to do with cvs before i'd like to ask, is it possible to use it to create a local repository of the mnf2 install much as i have local mirrors of my workstation i586 trees? then i could update the RPMS directory (or is that media/main these days?) every week or so and use urpmi from that? maybe work up some scripts to let me know if there have been changes and email myself a notification to go along with my security-announce messages. which prompts the question, will security-announce include updates to the pay-only mnf2 or will they be on a seperate list for purchasers? if security-announce did mention them i guess that would then dictate when to go to cvs for updates? have i made a mistake in assuming that previous mentions of cvs on the list imply that anyone can access it to build stuff? i'm happy to learn about cvs if it is going to allow me to set things up such that once done my updating will be relatively painless, what i'd like to avoid is the whole make a new iso, do an upgrade thing. esp as my firewall box is old and has a scsi cdrom in it that is not recognised by the installer! lastly, do i need to worry about the kernel i currently have following the recent security-anounce posts about the main distributions? upgrade to the latest 10.0 kernel maybe? i'm thinking this could all result in a how-to on the mandrake wiki thing for all those like me who for whatever reason won't be purchasing the final mnf2 bascule -- This is Art holding a Mirror up to Life.
