Mandriva develops free software (MNF frontend & backend, drakx and so on). However, as Mandriva pays people to develop free software, they need to make money, or they won't be able to pay these developers, and no more free software will be produced by Mandriva, and everyone loses. The solution Mandriva chose consists in restricting the distribution of the Mandriva brand, hence you cannot re-distribute the MNF ISO without paying for it. You are welcome, however, to take all the software found on the ISO, make your own ISO and distribute them freely. It is in many aspects similar to OpenBSD's policy, and I hardly see any conflict with the "free software spirit". Besides, as Deush's last email stated, those who contributed to the MNF will get free access to the MNF ISO if they want. Even if I would prefer the MNF ISO to be freely available to anyone, I don't find Mandriva's politic outrageous. Amaury (former MNF contributor)
