Yes mark you are right,

the problem comes from theses two patchs (with s_popen
inside):

XFree86-4.3-CAN-2004-0914.patch.bz2
xpm-3.4k-CAN-2004-0914.patch.bz2

The problem comes from the s_popen function.
if I try to compile XdTV on a new Mandrake 10.1
without all the updates for theses updates:

libxorg-x11-6.7.0-3mdk
xorg-x11-6.7.0-3mdk
xorg-x11-xfs-6.7.0-3mdk
libxorg-x11-devel-6.7.0-3mdk
xorg-x11-75dpi-fonts-6.7.0-3mdk
xorg-x11-server-6.7.0-3mdk
libxpm4-3.4k-28mdk
libxpm4-devel-3.4k-28mdk

I meets this two errors:

1) checking for XawDialogAddButton in -lXaw... no
checking for Xaw3dComputeTopShadowRGB in -lXaw3d... no
checking for Xaw3dComputeTopShadowRGB in -lXaw95... no
checking for Xaw3dComputeTopShadowRGB in -lXawM... no
checking for Xaw3dComputeTopShadowRGB in -lneXtaw...
no
configure: error: *** Unable to find a suitable Athena
Widget library (Xaw)

2)
/usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm.so: undefined reference to
`s_popen'
