i use these settings

==> /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0 <==
DEVICE=bond0
TYPE=Bonding
BOOTPROTO=none
IPADDR=192.168.0.1
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
ONBOOT=yes

==> /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 <==
DEVICE=eth0
MASTER=bond0
SLAVE=yes
ONBOOT=yes

==> /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth1 <==
DEVICE=eth1
MASTER=bond0
SLAVE=yes
ONBOOT=yes

i also have
==> /etc/modprobe.conf <==
alias bond0 bonding
options bonding miimon=100 mode=6

you should chose "mode" according to your requirements, the "miimon" is
important or failover will not work.

L.
