Hummm, in fact in your case it is worse to increase that size as you're probably limited by the size of your /tmp !
/dev/sda8     ext3	376807     43968    313383  13% /tmp

So you should use the -T option of mondoarchive to redirect temp files to another dir with more room in it (/var/tmp seems to be a good candidate) or reduce the EXTRA_SPACE to under 300 MB and see if that's enough to build the boot env.
