No. I did read the linked release notes on the Download web page, but
they didn't help clear up my confusion.

Two comments. (1) I have a chicken and egg problem because both your
notes below and the INSTALL document say to install the RPM after
patching the kernel. So the information I needed to understand which
patch to apply wasn't available until after I needed it. Anyway, I
installed the RPM and looked at the INSTALL document.

(2) The INSTALL document says that the RPM overwrites LinuxThreads.
Surely this kind of information should be available before the RPM is
installed.
