This type of card is "16 bit" but has a mix of 8-bit and 16-bit
registers.  It sounds like 8-bit accesses to odd addresses do not work
properly in an IO window configured for 16-bit width.  But, it also
sounds like 16-bit operations do not work in an IO window configured
for 8-bit width.  Hmmm.  I don't know how one would deal with a mix of 
register sizes on this platform; I am not familiar with it at all.
