Yes, I believe so. The Zaurus suspends cards rather actively. I guess
this makes a lot of sense for wi-fi cards.

I guess the script author wanted to detect and suspend the card until it
was actually needed (accessed by the network applet).

Yes, I've tried everything from 9600 up to 460800. Also fiddled with
flow control. There is either no response whatsoever from the modem, or
the "^Q"s or the "^@"s.

I have also verified that I can use a classic land-line modem (a
3Com/Megahertz 3CCM156B) in the Zaurus via the same CF adapter, without
any problems. With any line speed.

So, the issue is really narrowed down to that Ricochet/Novatel card.

Yes, that's how it looks. Unfortunately, I didn't get much response from
the Zaurus folks. It seems that the Zaurus and Ricochet is a very rare
combination. I'm afraid I'll just have to give up on using it. It's a
pity, because the Ricochet network works so well...
