Hi list,

I hope this is an appropriate place to ask for help, I apoligize if it
isn't.

For the past week I've been trying to configure my wireless network on a
RedHat 9 install. I have tried many different cards, dirvers and access
points with the same results.

Currently, I am trying an SMC2635W card with a Linksys WirelessG AP in
mixed mode. My modules loaded are:

[root@dschaible-ops root]# lsmod

iwconfig output shows:

[root@dschaible-ops root]# iwconfig

iwconfig version:

[root@dschaible-ops root]# iwconfig --version
iwconfig Version 25
Compatible with Wireless Extension v15 or earlier,
Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v15.

eth2 Recommend Wireless Extension v12 or later,
Currently compiled with Wireless Extension v15.

Everything appears to be fine, but I can never get a signal. I have the
AP sitting right next to the machine, less than 3 feet away but never a
signal. Manually configuring an IP address to the card works, but no
data is ever recieved.

[root@dschaible-ops root]# ifconfig eth2 192.168.1.139 netmask
255.255.255.0
[root@dschaible-ops root]# ifconfig eth2
eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:E8:00:00:00

I don't know what other info I could provide, but I will share whatever
is needed. After all the money I've spent on various cards and AP's I
really want this to work in Linux. (of course it all works fine in
Windoze! but I want Linux!!)

I've been searching all over the net and this is the only mail list I
could turn up that may have knowledgable people on it. I think I've seen
every linux-wireless site in Google's database but none seem to have
advice for troubleshooting (but everyone says these cards work great for
them...) I've also tried 3com 3CRSHPW796 with 3com's driver and the
amtel dirver, same result with them, the D-LINK DWL-G650, didn't expect
that to work and it didn't. Forget what driver I tried but I'm not
worried about that one. Also tried an SMC 802.11a card using the vt_ar5k
driver but I realize that it seems to be dropped as far as developement,
again, I'm not worried about that. But it seems to me that the 3com card
or the SMC 2635 should work.

Thanks in advance,
