Can you show system log messages from when you plug in the card?  Do
you get any error messages in your system log when you transmit?  Is
this a laptop?  Brand and model?  Have you used any other PCMCIA cards
successfully with this system?  Which ones?

It sounds like all the cards you decided to try are ones that require
less widely used drivers that are not included in the Linux kernel or
pcmcia-cs packages.  I don't have experience with any of them.  I am
not a wireless expert, but I'd recommend testing with encryption
disabled just to remove one possible complication.
