3Com 3CXM756 Card not working with Suse 8.1

I bought a 3CXM756 card and am trying to make it work with my SuSe Linux HP 
Pavillion N5445 Laptop. I could get it to work on Windows XP, so I know the 
hardware is good.I did not find the card in the HOWTO list. But apparently 
it is supported. I edited the config file to add this Modem with a bind for 
serial port driver.
Whenever I insert the card and boot the machine, I get two beeps one High 
and a low indicating that it does not like something.

Here is what all the things I tried.
1. Edit the /etc/pcmcia/config.opts for "include ports 0x100-0x3FF" (I got 
this file from 3Com website + additions from other people'e experiences)

exclude irq 4 port 0x3F8-0x3F8
exclude irq 3 port 0x2e8-0x2e8
exclude irq 3 port 0x3e8-0x3e8

When I do the setserial /dev/ttyS1
I get
UART 16550, Irq 3

Whenver I click on the PCMCIA status, I see the Card name in the right 
socket..
ls /dev/ttyS1 shows that it is recently created. Then I tried to use wvdial 
to dial this modem(I made sure that /etc/wvdial.conf has right values), but 
the modem's light does not even blink and I get following messages.
Sending AT
Sending ATDT
Resending AT
Modem not responding

From many email lists I understand that there is IRQ clash, but I think I 
took care of it by excluding the other IRQs in the config.opts file

I tried to see the system log, in /var/log/messages, and I got the error 
that
irq 3 "autoconf failed" "get dev info failed" resource temporarily 
unavailable
I have a suspicion that it is a resource clash, but I am just not able to 
find it and get rid of it. How do you guys test a modem whether it is 
working or not? Do you use wvdial?
Please help me find the answer?
