The latest I can find is 1.0.5.

You are sure that that is all that is required to enable S/PDIF output,
and that it is integrated into ALSA upstream?
If that's the case, it's been an INCREDIBLY well kept secret, as S/PDIF
output does not work out of the box on Xebian, and ShALLaX (Mr GentooX)
said that he is not aware of any s/pdif solution for newer ALSAs either.
I'm also a little skeptical (excuse me for being so) as:

dmp@platinum:/tmp/alsa/alsa-driver-1.0.5$ find | xargs grep xbox
dmp@platinum:/tmp/alsa/alsa-driver-1.0.5$

on a vanilla ALSA tree returns no matches, which isn't what I would have
expected, as there needs to be an entry in the driver listing the options
it accepts.
