OK,
here is the dump from lsusb (we found two xpads which are not working even when adding the IDs). Further debugging showed that the "new" XPAD is detected in the list and a pointer to the corresponing struct (within the array of structs) is returned from function usb_match_id() (in usb.c). I have not been able up to now to figure out how this information is further used. Nevertheless, here is the dump:
