As I've missed the first xbox hacking project, I'd enjoy working on that one, but until we get some boxes and start RE, we have no idea on how to run linux on it. What we know for sure is that we'll face a ppc64 machine, and that linux is already running on such processors. We also know it'll have an ATI GPU, so I guess open source DRI driver will let us play with hardware acceleration. Also, as alpha devkits are PowerMacintoshes, chances are the xbox360 will have a modified OpenFirmware bios, and that we could use OF related hacks to get some entry points on the xbox360 hardware. Another point is backward compatibility, first efforts will certainly be done to replace the software emulated xbox 1 bios by a cromwell like rom image. It could be a good start as it'll let us use the machine for something usefull until we find how to run a native linux on it ;) BTW, looking for bugs in games may not be the best way to go this time as Microsoft will certainly pay attention on editor's QA procedures, avoiding us to get through it too easilly. So I think my first attempts will be related to the x86 emulator. Making it crash thanks to our current knoweldge on the first xbox could let us run some arbitrary code on the underlaying OS. Now let's wait for our brand new toys :D > Michael Lubker > Software Lead > 3D Input Project > http://sf.net/projects/threed-input > > Jérôme ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by Oracle Space Sweepstakes Want to be the first software developer in space?
