I'm not sure how you can actually present a normal framebuffer in such a 
manner, even if it were possible. 

To my knowledge, no, no games would 800x600 composite, as there'd be 0 benefit 
to such a thing.

I don't think I have the utility to hand, but I might at some unspecified 
point (when I have a moment!) be able to cook one up to dump the lot in a 
form I can pull into the driver easily.  The second part is easy - build a 
kernel with vesafb support, not xboxfb support.  It will know nothing. Also, 
load it via Xbeboot (you want the default.xbe that xebian uses).

There are plenty of softmods that will work with your xbox, just not the 
Mechinstaller one, which frankly is a blessing imho ;)
