Inconsistent info in /proc/acpi/battery

Hi,
When I unplug the AC adapter on my Sony Vaio, the discharging rate in
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state
shows something in the 22,000 mW range, however watching the "remaining
capacity" value change over time indicated an actual discharge rate of
something of the order of 160,000 mW, and the battery dies in about 20
minutes.

Is this likely to be because of a hardware problem or a linux ACPI bug?
Any ideas on how I can find out?

I don't (and never have had) Windoze on this machine, but I used to get
about 2 hours of battery life in the past.

I'm using Debian unstable with kernel 2.6.9
