Hi Mike,

I looked at the CUPS web site and found an entry stating that a non-working
CUPS firewire backend had been removed from the 1.2 branch of CUPS and a new
firewire backend is expected to be available in CUPS 1.3.

This would suggest that you will need to consider initially using USB for
your connection with the option to convert to firewire in the future after
CUPS 1.3 is released.
