[Printing-user-general] Deskjet 690c

Hopefully someone can help me.

I've got a deskjet 690c printer that I'm trying to connect to my laptop using a
usb parallel printer cable. I use Windows XP. Sometimes it will print the first
few lines of a test page, sometimes the print fails totally.

When I've tried to run a diagnostics test on the HP website, it can't locate my
printer.

Its an old printer, out of warranty so I can only call HP on a premium rate
number. I'd rather not!

The printer has worked recently on another pc.
