No, I'm relying on the Debian package for CUPS, which worked for me in a
previous version.

Since I can print correctly by using Ghostscript to generate the .gdi file, and
then cat'ing the resulting file to /dev/usb/lp0, I assume that there isn't a
driver problem of any kind, and that the problem must be with the configuration
of CUPS itself. Of course that conclusion could be wrong, but it seems a good
starting point. Permissions don't seem to be a problem because cupsd runs as
root in Debian Etch.
