Yeah, good point. Though using the normal tools people use, you'd be OK for
quite some time since new users are normally added as 1 higher than the
current highest uid.
But you are right about it being a pain to trouble shoot and it's probably
best to find a real solution.

I just googled, and it seems to be a common problem but there were no
obvious answers to what causes it. I would guess its a problem with X since
people reported the same error using XDM and GDM aswell. I would suggest a
different version of X on the server, or maybe a different version of KDM.

One thing I did find was a mention that KDE 3 wont work properly on X3. That
could be your problem if that's what you're running, but that's fairly
unlikely I would think.

Is there anything different about the 2 accounts that are screwy? Like
different group, or strange UID?
