Recompiling Busybox?

Hello, my customers wish to access local floppies, cdroms, etc. from outside our domain. My firewall admin refuses to punch holes in the firewall for windows-ports (as i would do, too ;-). So I am thinking of alternative solutions for the local filesystem (shfs or "ssh-fs"). But for that i need some functions from Busybox 1.0. My first attempt was to replace busybox on my test-image. But when i started my modified pxes 0.6-4 image i says right after init-startup "syntax error". I guess I have compiled some options for the Busybox-binary which cause rcS to fail right after startup. Is there any way to figure out with which options Busybox for pxes-0.6-4 was compiled?
