RE: Printer sharing

You don't need samba to share just a printer attached to your pxes boxes.

I have 7 parallel inkjets attached to pxes machines around the place...  I
have to allocate those a static IP from the DHCP server.

In pxesconfig, go to the "Optional Local Devices" page and turn on "Enable
local printer support" in the "Parallel or serial printer configuration"
section.  For parallel printers on lp0 / lpt1 I set /dev/printers/0 and port
9100.

Then on your windows boxes you need to use IP printing, which is in windows
2000 and XP, but not 95/98/ME.  Tell your windows machines to add a new
printer, then where you pick the port you need to add a "Standard IP port"
(not sure of the exact phrase).  Then give it the IP of the PXES machine,
and the port 9100.  Use the windows driver for the printer.

You could also do this on a windows server, then share it out to all clients
as \\server\printername if you prefer.

If your printer is USB or Serial it should work, but I've not used one.  In
the future try and buy jetdirect-equipped lasers if you can.

I've activated samba to share printers over the network. I don't know what
driver to assign the printer in MS windows.

Unfortunately I can't see the MS printing howto. It seems to be offline. Any
ideas?
