RE: Is there a good faq for rebuilding the PXES kernel with new modules?

Thanks for the input...I never make it to the make modules step.  It is
a 2.4 kernel, the errors happen as I load and save the pxes0.8 config
file into the 2.4.21 source.  As soon as I get back to the command line
the menuconfig spits out the errors.

If I try to ignore them I don't get any bzImage.  I get a dysfunctional
bzImage is if I try to go through and create a new .config, but then it
ends up way too big and doesn't work.

So I think the /opt/pxes-0.8 base is installed correctly...it's just got
to be a problem with that symbolic linux link.  I started off with it
pointing to the stock redhat source, and followed the howto:

	Updating the source
	You need to apply the supermount-ng patch to the kernel source
before you compile.

	Download the patch and unzip it. 
	Change into the top directory of your kernel source 
	Execute the command "patch -p1 < supermount-patch" 
 

	Adding a new kernel
	If you want to add a new kernel to PXES' available kernel just
create a symbolic link "linux" to the new kernel-sources in
<pxesdir>/stock/

This is a great start, and sort of what I'm looking for.  With my stock
redhat 2.4.21 source tree, I downloaded the supermount patch and applied
it but still get the errors.  Is there a list of other patches like this
that may be required?  Pxesconfig works fine and those images boot fine.
I don't think I need to add anything to my Redhat installation, it seems
like whatever missing is missing from the source tree.

Would I be better off with a different linux distribution?  I started
off with Debian but I bought RedHat (back with 0.7) because it sounded
like that'd be the way to go.  I was able to get pxes-config to
customize the prebuilt images (for things like server names and client
defaults)...but I have yet to successfully recompile a kernel (for
another architecture, or to add modules...both of which I can see value
in being able to do).

I'm sorry if I'm being a pest but I feel like I'm really close to
getting it to work.

Did you make as much as possible modules?
I suspect the errors come about from the config for PXES kernels being
based on an older kernel than what you are trying to load it onto.
