Re: gnome, bonobo-activation, xterminal and pxes

Have you tried Nomachine NX (http://nomachine.com) ?
Perhaps this solve most of your problems closing the gap to a real 
terminal server.
There is also a complete Open Source implementation: FreeNX
(http://kalyxo.org).
