As long as the kernel and other programs were compiled with i586 or 
lower optimizations, you should be fine.  If you have a kernel built for 
a Pentium 4, then you will have issues.  I doubt that the generic image 
in the default is setup for anything higher than a i486...there really 
isn't much to gain if it is.
