Thanks Alec for this detailed explanation. In fact this is more or less 
the same introduction I would have given. Some time back I tried to 
write some documentation [1] to explain what needs to be done.

True! I guess the most time-consuming part is to learn how things have 
to be done which can not be covered easily in any documentation. There's 
a lot of experience and testing involved. And, unfortunately, in 
addition you'd have to port the currently existing code to a recent 
kernel and rtai base (also described in the doc and on my todo list for 
a long time now).

Maybe I'm not the fastest and my time for this project is very limited. 
But I'm always willing and trying to answer arm-related questions in 
this ml. Also I'd try to support as best as I can when a port is about 
to start. (sorry, more or less offtopic discussion!)
