I once had RTLinux 3.1 working on a Debian Woody system inside of
VMWare. Unfortunately, I lost that virtual HD, and I cannot reproduce
this (see a posting some months before).

It's very convenient for debugging: Just take a snapshot immediately
before starting the test module. If the machine crashes, just revert to
the snapshot before, and continue from there. So, there's no need for a
reboot.

Furthermore, you can use it while teaching students. This way, you do
not need to give them root access on the real machine, only inside the
VM.


Of course, for doing RT stuff, you need to use the plain hardware.
Anyway, it is very covenient sometimes.
