So, where are we with this? I just tested again and this is still
broken. If I re-bump desktop-backgrounds so f45-backgrounds is pulled
in, KDE just displays a blank white background and the same error
messages are present.

Have you reported this to KDE? Do we need to start thinking about
abandoning JXL for this release?
