A final update on this. I blacklisted the noveau drivers so that the
built-in intel graphics was used instead of the NVIDIA one, and the
Nautilus startup delay has gone away. There was also a ~2s delay in
youtube videos switching to/from/between adverts, and that delay has also
gone away.
