I don't want to use other gcc suites than the ones provided with 
the standard install. gcc 2.96 is fine for me in most cases. But 
for one project, I need some new features of libstdc++3. Maybe is 
there a way to use gcc 2.96 and link against libstdc++3?

When you say the build environment must be correctly set, what files 
(or maybe environment variables only?) are you referring to?
