Red Hat Enterprise RHN login failure on Itanium 2 system

I have installed Enterprise AS Update 3 on an Itanium 2 system and run
into the following problem:

I have configured the Authentication and Red Hat Network Configuration
to mirror the setup from a working x86 WS kickstart installation.
However, when up2date is run it fails on the "Sending Profile
Information to RHN" with the error "Problem registering username". I
am using the "Use an Existing Account" option and have tried using
both my RHN account and my coworker's with no avail.

I canceled that initial setup and logged in with the root account and
have verified that the network adapter was working correctly.

Does anyone have any suggestions/ideas as to what the problem could be?
