OK, after another hour of head banging I have uncovered the answer to my original question a. To make changes to lvs take effect without killing existing connections, the correct command with RHAS is: /etc/rc.d/init.d/pulse reload NOT /etc/rc.d/init.d/pulse restart I guess instead of RTFM it should be RTFS (S=script) Thanks for the lead Mike.
