Did you stop piranha? Or just http? If you stopped piranha, it would
have dropped the address. With no failover machine, there would be no
machine to recognize the address. 
I wonder also, if you don't take down piranha, if piranha will note the
httpd down and attempt a failover of some sort. 
Curious this. Maybe Sebastien is awake and can jump in here.
