ATA causes the modem to go into Answer mode, itll pick up and send a
carrier. What seems to be happening is thst its picking up the line,
sending a carrier but gotting no response and timing out.

If you are tryin to dial-in, use atdt <phone number> (for tone) or atdp
<phone number> (for pulse).
Now if you want the modem to pick up when someone calls, set ATS0=x
(where x is the number of rings to wait unitl it picks up)
