Re: In RedHat 9.0 modem keeps giving "no carrier"

It reminds me of my first times with wvdial, after 3-4 years on Windows.
If you have a identical laptop with Win2k, open the modem settings and copy
the initializing commands. (If you don't, go back to Win2k for a couple 
of hours. :-) )
Then, try to feed them to your wvdial.conf file. (That's what I did and 
it worked).
You also might like to know from your ISP for any extra initializing string.
Seems impossible, but it's not. Good luck!
