Re: In RedHat 9.0 modem keeps giving "no carrier"

	Don't give up now when you are so close. It WILL be well worth it to get away 
from Windoze and all those worms and virii and endless "updates". 
	I can't help you with your problem, but I'm sure someone on this list can, 
but I can suggest that it might be worth buying an external (serial) modem as 
most "winmodems" do not work on Linux. (Don't know about USB's either, but 
the best bet is definately serial).
	When did KDE start freezing up? Before or after you installed the modem 
driver? When I first got my current (winmodem) PC/RH9, I DL'd and installed 
the suggested driver, and couldn't even reboot the system. I had to start 
"safe" and uninstall the driver. I tried a USRobotics Sportster, and it 
worked right out of the box.  That was a 33.6K. I upgraded to a Diamond 
SupraExpress 56K and it also worked right out of  the box.
	Also, don't forget there are other Linux types out there. I like RH9 (I 
haven't tried RH10), I am also very happy with Mandrake 10, The first trouble 
free "upgrade" I've ever done upgraded from MD9.0.
