Re: In RedHat 9.0 modem keeps giving "no carrier"

Hello again,

Thanks for all your input, I was a bit frustrated when I wrote my last e-mail
regarding carrier problem.. I had to spend all my weekend for that.. :-(
but now I managed to make my modem work under linux :-) 

I have installed a newer/unsupported version of my modem driver and it did the 
trick..

My modem is "Agere Systems AC 97" and new drivers 
were available here

and the following page was also a great help, in case someone else gets a 
similar problem

But my freezing KDE desktop problem remains(happens sporadicly) and I cant use 
anything when the freeze happens.. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to kill X, Ctrl+Alt+Fx to 
change terminal
dont help either.. so I beleive Kernel is also not reachable..

Would you guys comment on this ? I have seen also here and there that KDE is 
not 
the best GUI option but still seems to be most usable one.. 

By the way, my redhat is 9.0
