US Robotics makes several PCI Hardware modems that work great with Linux and uSloth.

Some USR part numbers are: 3CP2976 (w/voice), 3CP2977, 3CP5610, 3CP5610A, and 3CP5610B

ICT in Malden, MA has the best price, $33 delivered, just go to pricewatch.com and type in the above (3CPxxxx) numbers.  ICT is a big USR dealer and their volume allows very competitive pricing.

One caveat, these are OEM (non retail) bulk modems, and USR does not support them, not that you will need any.  Retail versions cost at least $20 more, and their warranty isn't forever. 

Linux recognizes and confgures it as stty4 (COM5) and they work great, I have and use the 2977, 5610 and the 5610A ones in my boxes.
