RE: out of space on /

YES! Thank you I am confused about this....   I restarted and the
machine and now only the original /dev/hda2 is mounted as root.    So
don't be scared...   

Hdb4 is mounted three times but is not being used at all... no activity
has yet occurred on this disk other thank my making a couple of
directories and mounting it too many times... so I can fix that.  

What I have learned... each partition can be mounted only once... if I
want other directories to be in the volume then I must move them there
in the mount point directory.  This is what Joan is suggesting.  Right?

There are a couple of problems here. 

1. /dev/hda2 and /dev/hdb1 are both mounted as root. Not kosher. Never 
heard of mounting the same partition twice. I'm scared. Also, look at 
hdb4. That one is mounted *3* times! Certainly, this machine is a 
candidate for a data-wipe and a reload.

2. "John" is flying on a wrong premise. He thinks that he can remount a
directory on a different partition. Bzzzt. You can mount the partition
on
a different directory. But if you do, the content of the partition is
unchanged.
