When I was installing RH 7.2 for the first time and after a week of almost
unending problems one of which sounds very similar to what you are stating. I
had a raid array of 3 SCSI drives that each one gave me a screwy aborting due
to time out error like you are having. Each drive gave me the error 15 times,
once they completed the lengthy time it took to generate these error messages
(felt like 45 mins. each), the system would boot up and run - slow though.
Took many phone calls to Red Hat Support but they finally found someone who
know what the problem was. I was using the wrong kernel for my system. Seems
I was using the standard one for a single processor and I needed the one for a
dual processor mother board (even though I only have one processor on the
board). I think it was the one ending with .snp or .smp I can't remember just
right at the moment but I suspect that the problem is a computability problem
between the kernel and the motherboard. Every time I upgrade the kernel I
have to be sure and get the right one.
