Though I'm somewhat of a lurker on this list, I always appreciate ANY
question people have.  If someone is kind enough to answer, I always say
"Wow!  I'm glad someone asked that -- now I know the answer". 
 
After being a mainframe operator/programmer/systems programmer for 25 years,
now I find myself facing running Linux on the mainframe.  I have
accomplished this successfully, mostly from Redbooks, but also a large part
from lists like this. Now, there are about seven or eight ways to format a
DASD volume (i.e. VM, VSE, MVS, Linux ext2, ext3.....you get the picture :)

 
We mainframers can be "curmudgeon-ly" at times and now I see that rubbing
off on the Open Systems people.  You just have to take that with a grain of
salt.  After all, we're all here to help each other (at least that's my
utopian view).
