I don't know what you mean by "gyrations" but if it involves reboots, 
the answer is No.
If (for instance) your new mainboard features USB and your old mb didn't 
kudzu might kick in.
Kudzu does not install "drivers" or anything. If Kudzu detects something 
new it's already supported and Kudzu only does some administrative stuff.

There are some potential problems regarding on-board peripherals. For 
instance, if your new mainboard has (by chance) an ethernet device built 
in which happens to be the same type as the ethernet card you already 
have the device name of the card may move from eth0 to eth1, making room 
for the new card. But that's obviously very easy to solve.
Make sure your HD(s) are connected the same way they were in your old mb 
and I can almost guarantee it'll come up fine :)

In case of any unforeseen problem, putting the old mainboard back in 
will restore everything as it was before of course.
