Redhat freezes after setting hostname

I am writing in context to this thread :

I had redhat installed for over 6 months six months and suddenly httpd 
stopped and linux started aciting wierd.. So i sent it for a reboot and it 
just freezes after setting hosthame (probably at the USB checks )

So Basically I am having the same problem as stated in the above post. So I 
downloaded tomsrtbt and got into linux and was able to see my other 
partition in sda. But tomsrtbt does not have the fsck utility (it just has 
the e2fsck) and i have a ext3 filesystem. So how do i go about running fsck 
??

And i even tried upgrading the redhat to 8.0 and that stops with a fatal 
error saying there is a major hardware problem..
