I NEVER run as root. Especially if I'm running my instant messengers.

I was, and did. I pressed so many random keys that X locked up so I had 
to force a reboot. On reboot the filesystem was so corrupted that it 
dropped me into read-only maintenance mode and a basic shell prompt.

This was back in February. Since then I've tried RH8, Debian, and am 
back to Enigma (fixing to switch to Gentoo).
