hmmm....  were you doing that as root??  if so, then **maybe** you could 
have messed it
up this bad.

if you were doing this as a regular user, then absolutely not.  this is 
not windoze.  the
filesystem is handled by the kernel running in protected mode.  there is 
nothing that
a standard user should be able to do to cause damage to the filesystem, 
especially
not in KDE.

if you are sure that you do not have a hardware problem, make sure you 
are updated
to the latest kernel, glibc and other critical low level programs from 
the redhat errata
ftp site.
