first time i made an upgrade like that, i tried to go without a full
re-install of windows.. bad move.. not only was i getting bsods all
the time, it actually managed to corrupt some of the data on the disks
(i'm guessing conflicts with the ide drivers).

with the last upgrade, i didn't boot into windows for so long afterward,
that i had almost forgotten whether i had re-installed it or not. i did
notice the startup times, however. before the upgrade (p3-500) win98se
would take about 30-45 seconds to go from 'starting windows' to having
the stupid login box. after the upgrade (xp1800+) it took about 5
minutes.. that kinda clued me in that i hadn't done the re-inst. only
made me reboot about a dozen times before i could start saving off data
to do the re-inst.. :)

I booted into Windows, and immediately needed two CD's and God-only-knows how many driver disks. About 20 reboots later it's *almost* done complaining about the hardware changes. Almost. :)
