You have to run in this form to work properly and have in mind that the service you are connecting to have the same name/password in the unix box, and in w2k ie. [changos@localhost /]$ smbclient //192.168.222.208/documents -I 192.168.222.208 added interface ip=192.168.222.31 bcast=192.168.222.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 session request to 192.168.222.208 failed (Called name not present) session request to 192 failed (Called name not present) Password: Domain=[CHAZ_DOMAIN] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] smb: \> user changos MUST exist with the same pass (for security) in unix and w2k Hopes it help, regards, -----Mensaje original----- De: John G. Hi, I am trying to get to a windows share on a Win2K box on our network using smbclient. When I try the machine name I get: $ smbclient //machinename/username added interface ip=myip bcast=mybcast nmask=mynmask Connection to morpheus failed where of course the ip, bcast and nmask are valid numbers, i just hid them for security sake (??!! i'm a newbie, i don't know if this is neccessary.) then if i try using the IP address directly I get $ smbclient //123.456.789.876/username added interface ip=myip bcast=mybcast nmask=mynmask session request to 123.456.789.876 failed (Called name not present) session request to 123 failed (Called name not present) Password: and I can successfully log in. For the life of me I can't figure out what is happening on the win2k end that won't let me say the machine name directly. Help? Thanks jgw -- John G.
