The pppd is only started by mgetty if you specify AutoPPP. I have not done this yet as I wanted to get mgetty working in basic mode first. What I do is dial the server and when the connection is established the windows box gives me a terminal window where I can specify the user name and password. I then get a command prompt, this is NOT using ppp. The PPP and Serial howtos explain this quite well. The ppp howto then states that you should do a setuid on pppd and create a global alias for ppp to call pppd with options. As I said, this is the least of my problems especially as I will set up AutoPPP if I can get ppp working. As for the default gateway setting on my client, which is the important one for me, I cannot find anywhere to specify this on the dial-up connections properties. I thought the ppp server would supply this information, just like it does with dns servers. I cannot find anything on the man page to set in the options though. At this point I start to be confused. Why are you running pppd on the server. That is what mgetty does. If you have shell access pppd must be running. I just don't understand what you are asking. Could you clarify? > > 2. When I do get a pppd session running the client has trhe wrong default > gateway setting, the gateway comes back with the same ip address as that > assigned to the client machine. The gateway is setup in the client setup on the w2k machine and should be the ip address of your server. I do this all the time from my w2k setup at home. Again I am not sure I understand what you are doing. How did you configure the ppp connection on the w2k client? > > At the moment the second problem is causing the most trouble as I can get > around the first by doing an su as I am the only person using this and I > have root access anyway. > > You help would be much appreciated, > > Simon Wiehe > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > If you have received this e-mail in error or wish to read our e-mail > disclaimer statement and monitoring policy, please refer to > http://www.drkw.com/disc/email/ or contact the sender. > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > > > _______________________________________________ > Guinness-list mailing list > [email protected] > https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/guinness-list -- ------------------------------------------- Aaron Konstam Computer Science Trinity University 715 Stadium Dr. San Antonio, TX 78212-7200 telephone: (210)-999-7484 email:[email protected] _______________________________________________ Guinness-list mailing list [email protected] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/guinness-list ---------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have received this e-mail in error or wish to read our e-mail disclaimer statement and monitoring policy, please refer to http://www.drkw.com/disc/email/ or contact the sender. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
